St. Martin
Spring Break 2016

For Grace's Spring Break (2016), the Stocks family headed to the island of St. Martin, in the Leeward Islands, part Dutch and part French. We stayed at the Princess Heights Hotel, near Oyster Pond, on the island's southeastern shore, and just into the Dutch side. During our week-long stay, we hung out on Orient Beach (a "clothing-optional" beach--at least for the 80+ set), went diving and snorkeling (on the northwest part of the island, through the operator Octopus Diving in Grand case), and ate and drank to excess. On our scheduled last day there (Friday), we took a voluntary bump to Saturday, and were provided very nice accommodations at the all-inclusive Sonesta Maho Beach Resort. All-in-all a very nice vacation!

Some of the most famous airplane-related videos on Youtube are the landings and takeoffs from Saint Martin's Princess Juliana airport. The approach to Runway 10 is right on top of Maho Beach, and when big jets spool up their engines prior to takeoff rolls, beachgoers hang on to the fence to experience hurricane-force winds. This is a screengrab from video arriving at Saint Martin showing folks on the beach gawking at our plane's arrival.

Braden and Lee did several dive trips with Octopus Diving, and were joined on the first day by Debbie and Grace who snorkeled. Pictured is the dive boat anchored near Creole Rock, off Grand Case
