The 2008 edition of the Magnolia Cup Classic was contested over the weekend of May 16-18 in and around Pinehurst, NC. Venues hosting the prestigous Magnolia Cup were Longleaf, Woodlake, and a newcomer in the rotation, Tot Hill Farm (recently rated the 7th hardest course in America). But no course was too tough for these legends of the links: Ace Stocks, Humble Fleming, Cyborg Gale, Erratic Williamson, Coach Lesniak, Good George Beam, Wolf Gallier, and Massah Bohn.
Ace wastes his time practicing chipping before the first of two rounds at Woodlake. The short game was not Ace's forte during the Magnolia weekend (for that matter, neither was the long game nor putting.)
Wolf getting on his game face, practice green, Woodlake.
Always the fashion statement, Coach models the latest faux-Hawaiian golf ensemble, while Good George tries to blend into the background so as to not be associated with Coach.
Coach strolls back to his cart after another futile attempt to find his ball high and dry at the aptly-named Woodlake layout. Humble and Cyborg zoom by in search of their own shots.
The newest course to host a round of the Magnolia Classic was Tot Hill Farm, an extremely challenging layout that could easily have bested lesser golfers. However, the Magnolia octet persevered, and enjoyed a spirited contest on "Moving Day", where each linkster made his own determined run for the Cup. Here we see Humble and Good George each pleading their case, convinved that each has the closest ball on a blind approach shot.
After three days of heated competition, Erratic was just steady enough to stave off a furious run by Coach, and wrest away the Magnolia Cup. Here, last year's champion, Wolf Gallier, makes the presentation of the Cup that was witnessed by several in the Tot Hill parking lot.
